Afton Thatch is a large, detached thatched holiday cottage located at the head of the River Yar, which extends from Yarmouth Harbour, one of England's most unspoilt seaside villages. It is available year round for weeks, short breaks and weekends, sleeping 6-11 in 3/4 bedrooms. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the cottage, originally built in 1697, has been restored to a very high standard. Recommended as one of the UK's best country houses by The Guardian and by The Telegraph as a "secret seaside alternative to Cornwall and Devon".

Tasteful and yet understated, this lovely cottage has been interior designed and features antiques, handmade curtains and upholstered furniture throughout. With oak beams, fireplaces and an eat-in kitchen, complete with aga, the cottage has an authentic style and atmosphere that is rare among rental properties.

The cottage sleeps 6-11. There are three bedrooms leading from two staircases, with two bathrooms (one ensuite to the master bedroom) upstairs. The master bedroom has a king size bed; the second bedroom has a double and a single bed. The third bedroom is set out for children with two singles and an 'over and under' bunk bed.

Downstairs features a utility room (with washing machine and dryer), an eat-in kitchen and two sitting rooms, one with a large stone fireplace. The second sitting room has a television, small study and cloakroom. This room also has a sofa bed and can be used as a fourth bedroom for two people.

The cottage has river views on one side and open fields up to Afton Down on the other. It is in a tranquil location but within easy walking distance to the village of Old Freshwater, with its pub, The Red Lion, as well as the larger village of Freshwater with its food market.

From the cottage one can walk to Afton and Tennyson downs, or along the cycleway beside the River Yar to Yarmouth. Compton Bay, a beautiful National Trust beach, is a short drive or bicycle ride away.

The cottage has WiFi.
